ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The annual gathering of the school health promotion community in Canada is back in Ottawa in 2008 (FOUR POINTS SHERATON GATINEAU-OTTAWA
35 RUE LAURIER, GATINEAU, QUEBEC). This is the fourth annual school health conference. These conferences bring together practitioners, researchers, administrators and policy-makers to address emerging themes in school health promotion.
The first conference in 2005 launched the intergovernmental work on school health being done in the provinces. The second conference focused on provincial/territorial planning and addressed nutrition, physical activity and tobacco use. The third conference addressed social development and mental health issues, including bullying, harmful use of substances, mental health and crime prevention with an emphasis on the local agency role and inter-agency cooperation. The fourth conference has been combined with several symposia so that several health and social problems can be addressed as well as highlighting the common elements of a comprehensive approach to school health promotion.
The conference is being planned by several national and international organizations and supported by small contributions from federal departments and national agencies.
The registration fee for the conference includes an annual membership in the Canadian School Health Knowledge Network. These membership fees will provide access to various resources including a bi-weekly school health report, a school health blog, documentation centre, webinars, updated research bibliography and comprehensive web site.
